Built more than seventy years ago in the wake of the great depression, Swanson Pool was recently renovated. To bring it into the 21st-century, Swanson Pool’s architects and construction managers had to revert back to the 1939 dimensions of 50-meters. The shell of the pool — also dating back to 1939 — has been replaced and a second 1-meter diving board and additional drop-slide installed. Locker rooms have been expanded and renovated to include a family restroom area conveniently located off the upper deck.
New water activities will also greet visitors to Swanson Pool. With visions of Indiana Jones in their heads, the nimble-footed can test their sense of balance and strength on the Lily Pad, a play area of plastic stepping stones that spans the widthof the pool at about the 4-foot mark. Dare-devils must pull themselves arm-over-arm across a braided rope canopy that is suspended overhead, while also dodging random jet streams of water bursting from two nearby water cannons. Swanson Pool also features two waterslides, lap lanes and a concession area.
The adjacent small pool was reconfigured for zero-depth access, and a shaded, interactive play area was added. Additional shade structures positioned around the deck, and an expanded sand play area boasts new play features such as the mermaid fountain that shoots a stream of water so kids can make sand castles.
